Sacrament of Reconciliation

The sacrament of reconciliation is used to absolve the faithful of their sins committed after baptism. All mortal sins must be told and venial sins could be told. Mortal sins are those that (1) are grave and serious, (2) are committed with full knowledge and (3) are committed deliberately and with full consent.
A Priest will act in the person of Christ and hear your confession. After the confession the priest will offer guidance and assigns penance, following with a prayer of absolution. After the sacrament of reconciliation the priest may never talk of the confession because of the Seal of Confession, even under threat of violence or death. It is allowed to talk about the subject indirectly to teach a broader lesson or get extra guidance.
The penalty for breaking this seal is excommunication.

Steps

A summary made with help of LLM

  1. Preparation for confession. One must examine their own conscience and reflect on their actions and identify the sins they have comitted
  2. Find a priest who will perform the sacrament of reconciliation and start with the words: "Bless me, Father, for I have sinned", after which you confess your sins
  3. The Priest assigns an appropriate penance. This often involves acts of prayer, acts of service, acts of charity, or actions to amend the sins committed.
  4. After receiving penance, you pray an Act of Contrition, expressing sorrow for your sins. In return the priest will make a prayer of absolution, granting forgiveness for your sins
  5. Thank god for the forgiveness you have received, perform your penance and strife for a better life.
